Wisdom in Asking
In the Bible, Solomon had the opportunity to ask God for anything and his request would be granted. He asked for wisdom to lead God’s people. God was so impressed with this that He did make him extremely wise. He also gave him wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has ever had.
Solomon sounds to me like he is a guy with resources. He obviously had all kinds of options to get any job done he wanted. However, I found it interesting that when it came time to build the temple of the Lord, he asked a king down the way for help. In 2 Chronicles 2, Solomon requests that King Hiram help him build the Lord a magnificent temple by contributing beautiful logs and a master craftsman. He of course offered payment for this.
King Hiram was so excited to get to help with King Solomon’s big vision! He sent him the logs and an extremely talented master craftsman that could make anything from any material in any design desired!
What strikes me is that I don’t have near the resources that King Solomon had. Not even close! Still, I will not ask for help when I need it or I feel like I need to just accomplish things on my own. Maybe God has placed people in your path that have an awesome talent or gift that could benefit you in a project you are working on. Maybe they are there to contribute to make what you are working on a success. If you need to work out a type of repayment with something you have, that’s fine. Don’t be afraid to ask! It doesn’t mean you are weak, it means you are wise!
God, please help me to not be prideful and think I can do everything on my own. Please make me aware of the gifts and talents of others in my path, and help me seek out help when it could really make a situation better.
