When our children were younger, we could keep them close by more often than not. We felt a sense of security from the protection we could provide for them. As our children grow and venture into the world, we realize that we need something more than ourselves to count on for protection for them. Thank the Lord that He has provided promises in His Word for our family’s protection! Now, it’s a matter of are you actively believing His promises for your family?
Psalm 18:30
God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
Does this verse say that God protects everyone because He is so nice? No, it says His way is perfect. It says that His way is that He is a shield for all who look to Him for protection.
Psalm 91:4
He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
So what is our shield against danger? His faithful promises are my protection. As a parent in my home, it is my responsibility to know the promises of God so that I can put my trust in Him for those promises and bring protection into my family’s life.
Psalm 91 lays out some absolutely amazing promises of protection from the Lord. If you don’t know these in your heart yet, you are missing out! I can’t wait to remind myself of all the wonderful promises from my heavenly Father!
In Psalm 91:2-3 it says “I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I confidently trust! For then He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.
It all begins with a cause and effect. You declare your trust in God and confidently trust in Him – Then He rescues you and protects you!
(v.4) He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings.
(v.5) I will not be afraid of the terror in the night, nor the evil plots of the wicked that flies in the day.
(v.6) I will not dread the disease that stalks in the darkness, nor of the destruction or sudden death that surprise and lay waste in the day.
(v.7) Though a thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right, it shall not come near you!
(v.8) I will be an inaccessible spectator, in the secret place of the Most High, as I watch how the wicked are punished.
(v. 9-10) Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your shelter, no evil shall befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your home!
(v.11-12) He will give His angels especial charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you wherever you go! They will hold you up with their hands so that you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone!
(v.13) You will trample on lions and cobras
This is why the Lord will do this for you and your family:
Psalm 91:14
Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].
One thing we have got to get straight is that the Lord is for us! When we understand that we can trust Him and that He is faithful to us, we can have full confidence in His protection for our family! This is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our family – living in the trust and protection of the Lord.
This is one chapter we looked at today! Think of all the other magnificent promises for our family hidden in the Bible just waiting for us to discover!
Psalm 56:10
I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the Lord for what he has promised.
The Lord’s faithful promises are my protection.
Father God, I praise You for what You have promised!! You love me and have amazing promises for me and my family! I know that I can trust You to be faithful to Your Word! Thank You for protecting me and every person in my family. I thank You for hiding us in the shadow of Your wings, and for commanding Your angels to guard and protect my family in all our ways! Please help me to always speak Your promises over my family and remember to praise You for Your protection.
